An early edition/printing of Verne's fourth novel, originally printed serially in Magasin d'Education et de Recreation in 1865 (both magazine and book published by Pierre-Jules Hetzel). Illustrations throughout. Seemingly rebound at some point in full red leather with gilt ornamental borders on front/back panels, gilt fleurons/ ornamentation with raised bands and black leather title card on spine. Marbled end papers and edges. Marbled edges are darkened and rubbed so that marbling is not very visible. Edge wear, some scratches/dents, and rubbing on boards, notably on joints and head/tail of spine. Foxing throughout though less so in the middle of the text block and all text is readable. Gift/award inscription in ink on blank page before title, as is a previous owner name on top edge of same page. Binding is tight and gilt lettering/ornamentation still bright.
